Introduction – Trusting God In Life’s Currents
There’s something peaceful about standing beside a river. The steady sound of moving water has a way of calming the heart and quieting the mind.
Every time I walk along our river, I’m reminded of how God moves in our lives—sometimes slowly, sometimes unexpectedly, but always with purpose.
Today’s devotional comes from a simple walk by the water and the lessons God whispered through creation.
Main Devotional
1. The River Keeps Moving — Even When We Can’t See What’s Ahead
Rivers never stay still. Even in the quietest stretches, the water is moving somewhere.
That flow reminds me of Isaiah 43:19:
“See, I am doing a new thing!
Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?
I am making a way in the wilderness
and streams in the wasteland.”
Isaiah 43:19
Sometimes we feel stuck or unsure about the future, but God is working beneath the surface.
Like a river carving a new path, God is making a way—even when it’s not obvious yet.
2. The Water Carries Only What It’s Meant To Carry

Trees drop leaves, branches fall, and the river takes what needs to move on.
It doesn’t hold onto the debris.
That’s a reminder for us:
- Not every worry is meant to stay
- Not every burden is ours to keep
- Not everything we carry is meant to be held forever
“Cast your cares on the Lord and He will sustain you.”
Sometimes walking with God means letting the current take what no longer belongs in your hands.
Psalm 55:22
3. There Is Beauty in Both the Calm and the Rushing Waters
Some parts of the river are glassy smooth. Others rush with power, foaming around rocks and fallen branches.
Both are beautiful.
Both have purpose.
Life with God is the same.
The calm seasons teach us to rest.
The rushing seasons teach us to trust.
Neither one is evidence of God’s absence or distance—He is in both.
“There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God.”
God Himself is our constant flow, our strength, and our source of life.
Psalm 46:4

Reflection Questions
Take a moment to pause and reflect:
- Where in my life is God gently moving me forward?
- What burdens am I holding that I need to let go of?
- Am I trusting God in both the calm and rushing seasons?
Writing these answers in a journal—or even during a walk outside—can help you hear God more clearly.
