Costs Of A Power Outage
When it comes to a power outage. We have learned how important it is to have other means readily available when it comes to a power outage.
What are your means? I will share a portion of what transpired and I will share more at a later time and in more detail when it comes to what you need when it comes to surviving a power outage.
The Costs
We’ve learned how costly a power outage is. The updates from PG&E went from hours, to days, to weeks and to near a month. Because, our main road had severed power poles, power lines laying about, trees covering the roads, we had to wait for roads to clear for crews to come in to clear for PG&E to do their part. As you can see PG&E had to be pulled out.
Tin Can
Trying not to freeze to death in a tin can. We almost lost our minds and gave up to flee back to the comforts of city life. We were freezing to death with no means to stay warm. Until our neighbors showed up.
Polaris
Our neighbors resided near us for more than 30 years. They said, we’ve never had snow like this for around 30 years. Praise God they were able to take my son into town with a Polaris RZR. My son grabbed propane tanks and gas tanks. Note: none of our vehicles were able to make it out of the road.
Generators
Oh and when it comes to generators there is a bunch of stuff you need to know. I will share in another post. We also had to deal with inventory shortages.
Supply shortages thanks to COVID. Prices shot up and availability was few, far and between.
Land
When choosing a piece of land you must know what it will provide, we were fortunate to have water and electricity already in place. My son and I had sought out property in the mountains for some time. We wanted a shop on the property and pine trees and it had to be in the mountains. We’ll we found it and it sure had its bonuses and some drawbacks.
Conveniences
We gave up city life and all its conveniences. This included power not going out and the ability to get home owners insurance. Our area is highest rated for wildfires and no insurance company is willing to insurance you.
Inconveniences
We moved to the property basically homeless. We started with a tent, then, we migrated to our own vehicles. We took baths basically from a hose and around the warmth of the sun. Eventually, the heat took a toll on us. So, we sought out a travel trailer in desperation. This was a time when travel trailers were in demand because of all the California wildfires. We didn’t know what to look for and what not to get. So, I pulled the trigger and thought what could be so bad about a 2019? I will discuss more about this later.
